Home Remodeling and Renovations
Renovations and remodels make up a large part of our portfolio. It’s important to have someone who understands the process and takes a proactive approach on your renovation project. We at Bielefield Construction Inc. take the time to understand your vision make it a reality! Home additions add living space to an existing home. Many homeowners in Sonoma County who claim that their house is big enough, eventually feel the need for a bigger kitchen, an extra bedroom, or a larger bathroom. That’s where house additions enter the picture. Home additions can range from relatively low-cost attic or basement expansions to expansive, full-size conventional additions that require excavation, footings, and additional siding and roofing. Garage conversions can even legitimately be called additions since so much living area is added at once. And an increasingly popular option is a secondary living structure detached from the main house, used as an independent dwelling unit. Called DADUs (detached accessory dwelling units), these, too, fall under the category of home addition.
Renovation or Remodel?
Bob Vila says, “The words “renovation” and “remodel” are often used interchangeably, but if you’re planning some major home improvements, it’s best to get the terminology right before you talk to a contractor. While both renovation and remodel will improve and update your living space, the two types of projects are very different, each with its own set of benefits and considerations. Get to know six key differences that will help you keep the lingo straight—renovation vs. remodel—and nail down the project that best suits your home.
He goes on to say that a Renovation is a project that updates the look and feel of your home without changing its intended purpose. While new paint, cabinets and flooring or plumbing may be added but the purpose of the room doesn’t change; it’s still a kitchen. Where in a remodel, the functionality of each space is considered and often changed as well as the appearance. While each room can retain its purpose, there are often structural changes that significantly transform the space. While remodeling may require obtaining permits, a remodel almost always does.
